COASTEERING AND KAYAKING AT CEIBWR BAY.
Following on from the recent newsletter articles and letters relating to coasteering and kayaking at Ceibwr bay, there has been much discussion about the numbers of users and the activities of commercial organizations using the bay. Over the last 24 months we have witnessed an expansion of these activities, for example, on Thursday evening (14 July 2011) there were two adventure groups, six mini buses and fifty coasteerers at Ceibwr. This is not a one off occurrence and is now taking place on a regular basis.

Ceibwr bay is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Regionally Important Gio- diversity Site (RIGS), is part of the Heritage Coast and is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Monitoring over the past 24 months on behalf of the National Trust, has shown that the increased activity has severely disturbed the wild life to such an extent that seals who used to give so much pleasure have now largely vacated the scene.
At present none of these commercial activities are controlled. Ceibwr is an attractive option, as the parking and access, all be it limited, is free.

The noticeable increase in these commercial water born activities may lead to further growth, and this in turn will undoubtedly put more pressure on the environment, parking and the general tranquillity of the area.

I am well aware from conversations with local residents that many of you have concerns about this matter along with others who feel it is a good thing and that it allows opportunities for visitors, adults and children alike to experience this amazing coastline.
However it is important that locals know the facts: i.e. what is happening and the effect it is having on our local environment.

PCC advertise Ceibwr as an excellent place for seal spotting
- Somewhat ironic as they are now rarely seen in the bay.
A meeting is to be arranged with the local authorities, i.e. Pembs. Coast National Park, Pembs.County Council and the National Trust to discuss this issue.
In the mean time I would very much like to hear from more
of you so as to gauge the local opinion and concerns that you may have regarding the commercial activities now taking place at Ceibwr.
